The effects of illness perceptions on health-related quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation

Abstract Background/Introduction Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is lower compared the general population, healthy controls, and other cardiovascular diseases. Many factors influence HRQoL AF negatively. Illness perceptions have been shown to be related a number diseases, but, role effect illness perception on lacking. Purpose The aim was explore relationship between AF. Methods present study cross-sectional design included 167 Patients scheduled for cardioversion at University hospital Sweden, filled self-reported, validated questionnaires. measured Revised Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-r) Arrhythmia-Specific questionnaire Tachycardia Arrhythmias (ASTA). part IPQ-r consists seven dimensions (Timeline acute/chronic, Consequences, Emotional Representations, Personal control, Treatment coherence, Timeline cyclic). Dimensions IPQ-R significant correlations were multiple regression model. Results participants consisted 69.5% men mean age group 68,8±10,4. are presented Table 1. analysis (Table 2) showed that Consequences (p<0,001) Representations (p=0,003) significantly associated adversely affected HRQoL. model explained 35% total variance (R2= 0,350, p=0,001).
